During the winter months most birds fly off to places with a warmer climate but not the UK's very own Bird who has recently spent the last year in the freezing cold country of Iceland. Home of course to the constantly referenced Sigur Ros and Bjork.

Those expecting the influences of these artists to rub off on Bird would be mistaken. Even the cold and harsh mountainous landscapes of Iceland don't seem to have sneaked their way onto this album.

Instead what we have here is a collection of 10 modern day sounding acoustic/folk ballads. Her vocals are always delicate and thoughtful and it's hard to resist her allure sometimes when she comes across as being so genuine.

While Bird is the solo project of half Irish, half English singer songwriter Janie Bird, the majority of tracks have been co written by producer Eberg. These are the tracks that seem to shine through. "Landside" is the most upbeat song on the album and stands out from the rest alongside "Behind Closed Eyes" and "Falling Like Stars".

While her own individual songs are half decent it seems that Bird needs the support of others to really excel. For a debut album this is something any artist would be proud of though it is unlikely it will ever go down as one of the great debuts of all time.

This is no Grace by Jeff Buckley but it is still an exceptional start suggesting that the future is very bright indeed for this young British hopeful.
